U18 Harriers win County Cup

U18 Thorpe Park Surrey County Cup Winners!

On 25th March 2026, Milford Pumas won the County Cup at home against Bedhead Youth FC with a 5-2 victory . Well done to the players, supportive parents and coaches.

The route to the final included a 5-2 QF home win vs. Abbey Rangers followed by a 6-2 SF away win vs. Epsom & Ewell. On the night some great attacking play and excellent defending throughout saw Harriers come out on top in a very competitive game played in good spirits.

We started strongly with Jack Roberts going close in the first minute before latching on to a through ball from Blaise Gethen-smith to slot home in the 7th minute. After 40 mins, a lovely cross field ball from Cam Underwood found James Berry, who volleyed a through ball to Blaise to finish for a 2-0 half time lead.

Bedhead started the second half very strongly and had it not been for a brilliant point blank save from ‘keeper and Captain Callum Bonner on 48 mins the match could easily have turned Bedhead’s way. Two minutes later though, Blaise scored his second goal by dispossessing a defender and running through to finish for 3-0. Freddie Masterman then beat two defenders to make it 4-0, and although Bedhead pulled two late goals back, Blaise capped off his MoM display by running clear in injury time to complete his hat trick for 5-2.

All the players received a free day pass to Thorpe Park, and with his MoM award, Blaise walked away with a match ball and an Annual Gold pass !!

The celebrations in the dressing room on Wednesday night were the standout highlight from 12 years of amazing experiences with Milford Pumas, and winning the County Cup caps off a fantastic few seasons for the Harriers team.

Four of our players started in the U6s and most of our 18-man squad have been with us for between 4 and 8 seasons. I hope that our current crop of Milford Pumas youngsters go on to have long careers with the club and enjoy their time with us as much as we have!!

Charlie's Promise Fundraiser

The Big Cycle - London to Paris by Don Brayshaw, Milford Pumas YFC

On the 1st October, a number of industry colleagues and I are cycling from London to Paris to raise money for individual charities of our choice.

I’m raising money for Charlie’s Promise whose mission is to educate young people about knife crime and its consequences . The charity was started by Charlie’s Dad, Martin Cosser, after 17 year old Charlie (a Milford Pumas Player), went to a house party in a Sussex village and was stabbed multiple times. Heartbreakingly, Charlie succumbed to his injuries 3 days later (though harrowing, I really recommend you read the account of events on the website).

The charity started in Charlie’s name is dedicated to helping the fight against the rising issue of knife crime in the UK by raising awareness of the dangers of both carrying and using a knife. If it’s possible, it’s made even more poignant from me, as Charlie played football for and his family were involved with, Milford Pumas YFC, a club at which I’ve coached at for almost 20 years.

If you could help this very worthy cause in any small way, Charlie’s Promise and I would be immensely grateful. Updates on our progress will be on my Instagram account and messages of support and encouragement will, I am sure, help us along the way.

Charlie's Cup presented in memory of Charlie Cosser

At the Pumas End of Season day we renamed the Young Puma of the Season Cup to Charlie's Cup in honour of Charlie Cosser. As many of you are aware after the tragic death of Charlie Cosser last year Martin and Tara have set up the Charity, Charlie's Promise .

11 years ago Shaun Moorey presented the Young Pumas of the Season Cup to Charlie and so in his memory we renamed the Cup Charlie's Cup and Tara Cosser (mum) was there to present the cup to the player. Well done!

A Successful End of Season Day

It was a typical football rainy weather day! But it did not distract from a fantastic day with over 400 player trophies and 150 awards presented!

Fantastic atmosphere and team spirit from all with pizza, bbq and hot drinks enjoyed by all!

Rodborough 3G Pitch Use

Essential information for players, spectators, physios and club/team officials

In order to preserve the high quality of the pitch and surrounding area, all users are required to abide by the following rules.

Footwear

No person will be permitted on to the pitch surface without the correct footwear under any circumstances other than a medical emergency. This applies to Players, Managers, Coaching Staff, Physios & Match Officials.

The correct footwear is Football Boots with either moulded studs or screw in studs ONLY , please note metal studs are not allowed.

The following footwear is NOT permissible: Trainers, Blades or Astro turf boots or any flat soled shoes . Any person not in the correct footwear WILL NOT be permitted to enter the pitch area, this is also applicable to management/coaching staff and officials.

Spectators are not permitted onto the pitch surface.

The boot scrapers by the entrance to the enclosure should be used to clear mud from boots prior to entering.

We are very strict on the footwear permitted on our new pitch, as this varies on different types of 3G pitch.

Goals/Goal Keeper Warm Ups

Goals must be returned to their hardstanding storage area at the end of every training session/match. Goals must be moved by two people to prevent damage and injury. The break must be released prior to movement and the goal rolled into place using the wheels.

Swinging on the crossbars is prohibited to prevent damage (they will bend) and injury.

Although a 3G surface is more resilient than grass, the goalmouth is subject to much more wear than other areas of the pitch in exactly the same way as a grass pitch. For that reason, goalkeepers and outfield players should not warm up in the goal mouth where possible.

Food and Drink

Food and Gum are prohibited on or around the 3G pitch.

No drinks other than those in a sports water bottle, or water are permitted on the pitch surface.

Gates should be closed (locked) on exit.

Site Rules

The following rules apply to the entire school site

No smoking or naked flames
No Vaping
No chewing gum
No Dogs or any other animals allowed
No Vehicles (other than emergency response vehicles attending an accident/emergency) of any kind are permitted to drive or park on any grass areas, to enter the playing fields, playground area or travel between school buildings.
Parking should be in marked bays only and in accordance with any entrance/parking area instructions issued.
Any/all rubbish must be placed in the bins provided or taken off site.
Please ensure you take all belongings when leaving the pitch including empty drinking bottles.
All visitors on site are expected to be polite and courteous to Rodborough Staff at all times.
All visitors are expected to comply with any requests issued by Rodborough Staff.

Rodborough School Staff have the right to ask any visitor to leave the site if acceptable standards of behaviour are not maintained, there is a perceived risk to other stakeholders or the rules are not adhered to.

Renewing Pumas

If you are an existing Pumas parent you can sign in to the member system here using the primary account holder's email.

We have changed the age group & school year for you but please check this is correct.
You will need to add a new recent photo (clear and head only) as the league doesn't accept last years image.
The membership type needs to be reselected to ensure the system calculates the correct fee.
If you had two or more siblings linked and you are removing one or more, you can email info@milfordpumasyfc.com to unlink the records so you can renew the child individually and you don't need to re-enter the details. Also, contact us if you need to link two siblings that joined separately this season.
If you have a new sibling registering next season, please ensure you select the correct membership type so that the correct number of records can be linked to your account.
Your current manager will inform you of any changes to teams/managers for next season by the end of August.
If you have any questions regarding next seasons teams please contact your manager from last season who should be able to help you.

Rodborough 3G Pitch - Footwear

What you need to know when playing on Rodborough's new 3G pitch

The build is going well and we expect to start use from October, so make sure you are prepared with the right footwear... the preferred boots are with moulded studs or plastic/nylon screw in studs.

Never use spiked shoes on the surface.
The use of a flat sole shoe is not allowed as this will compact the infill and is considered to be more aggressive to the pile and causing early wear.
Blades are not recommended due to the potential to injure ligaments but are not banned/prohibited categorically as they do not damage the surface.
Metal screw in studs and those screw in studs with a metal tip and a plastic base are prohibited.
Astroboots (hockey boots with tiny dimples) are prohibited as they effectively act as a flat sole and therefore have a damaging effect.

For safety reasons, boots of all players should be checked before every game or training, both for sharpness and cleanliness.

Dan Wells Completes Keepy-Up Challenge!

Watch Dan complete the challenge and do some household tasks at the same time!

U7 Pumas parent and ex-footballer Dan Wells kindly offered to help raise funds for a 3G pitch by doing 10,000 keepy-ups on Jun 22nd 2022. After months of practice, Dan successfully completed the challenge in one go on one of the hottest days of the year!

Dan started at 4:57am with an aim to complete it before it got too hot and finished at 7:13am!!! What a legend! Watch the training and countdown to the end below and please continue to donate to this amazing fundraiser that will benefit all the children in the local community that attend Rodborough or are part of a local community football club.

Help finish our 3G pitch!

Great news! The 3G pitch at Rodborough School is going to be built this summer in time for all 700+ Milford Pumas players to start using it in the autumn.

Unfortunately due to raising costs since the sign off with funding with the FA we have seen an increase in costs for the project as a club have been asked to raise £10,000. £10000 sounds and is a lot of money but when we break it down it is a cost of £15 per player.

To help raise funds we have two fundraising initiatives on the go so please donate what you can...

Covid-19 Update

Latest Government guidelines.

From Thursday 24 February 2022:

People are no longer legally required to self-isolate if they test positive for COVID-19.
People do not have to take daily tests or be legally required to self-isolate following contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
Sport specific COVID-19 Guidance is no longer required

What this means for MPYFC:

We no longer need to:

Provide separate COVID-19 guidance to parents, players, officials and volunteers
Maintain the NHS Test and Trace.
Managers carry full COVID-19 PPE, however they may wish to continue carry some of the PPE as part of the overall managers kit bag

We should still continue to:

Encourage everyone to check for symptoms, test if appropriate and stay away from a session if testing positive
Use the formal club football session invites as these are seen as best practice and support our ongoing Charter status
Provide a duty of care for all players so please continue to take appropriate measures to mitigate any identified risks
Review Government guidance for living with COVID-19 can be found here Government’s plan for Living with COVID .

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as required. Thanks for all your support and efforts over the least couple of years to keep our club operating safely.

The new 2021/22 season is now underway and as we return to grassroots games up and down the country it is important that we update everyone on the Respect codes of conduct that need to be adhered to.

As a coach/manager, creating a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all on and off the pitch can make a difference, therefore it is important that we follow the codes of conduct set for us.

The Respect codes of conduct are in place to ensure that everyone involved within grassroots football is playing their part to give everyone a positive experience.

Milford Pumas YFC wins the first Waverley Cup Tournament

After a year of uncertainty, we were pleased to team up with grassroots football clubs to host a local tournament for our players in all age groups. The matches were spread over two days from May 29th to 30th and hosted at 3 different locations depending on the age group and was a huge success!

There were six invited clubs to the format - Milford, Farncombe, Chiddingfold, Elstead, Cranleigh, and Albury and as it was such as success we all plan to continue this next season.

It was lovely to see the sun shining and a bit of normality whilst still keeping safe.

Thanks to Hall Hunter for sponsoring the tournament.

Thanks to all the organisers, including our very own Chairman, Shaun Moorey, for making it happen and putting a smile on little faces.

A Milford Pumas father's story...

The words I heard in the winter of 2010 at my wife’s baby scan. As a first time Dad, one of the many thoughts going through my head that day was – How on earth was I going to bond with a girl. I love football, girls don’t normally like football do they? Little did I know that 10 years to the day after that scan my daughter would have changed my view on football, girls and life.

As a toddler Abby was into your normal things. Peppa Pig, sand pits, scooters and the like. When she hit five the option of clubs and activities was brought up. As most first time parents probably do we defaulted to ballet for Abby. Whilst showing willing in the early days, it was clear it wasn’t for her as her interest faded.

We needed something else. Could it be football? I was a Portsmouth addict since the age of 10, it was all I really knew. If I was going to get her into football I needed to inspire her, she needed role models.

So I took her to a Portsmouth Women game on 20th August 2017. The day everything changed. The team were fantastic with Abby. Engaging with her pitch side. She was hooked and looked up to her heroes in awe.

Abby joined Milford Pumas as an Under 8 player in August 2018. She joined the mixed Saturday team. Being the only girl in the team meant nothing. The other parents, players and staff were brilliant with her and she felt welcome from day one. One of her coaches was Mark. Mark was fantastic with Abby, he knew exactly how to speak to her and over the first season built her confidence. She grew massively as a player that season and won the Most Improved Player award.

The following season for the under 9’s she remained in Marks team and was becoming a solid defender with a reputation for a strong tackle. She won managers player of the season at Milford Pumas and captained her school team to a cup final. In January Abby had a trial for Fulham and impressed enough to be offered a place in their mixed Development Centre on Friday nights. She was also nominated for Grassroots Footballer of the Season in the Women’s Football Magazine awards.

As of this season Abby currently plays in the U10 age group at Milford. She was moved into a new team but soon made new friends and has had new coaches to inspire her. She still trains with Fulham on a Friday and now also trains with Portsmouth on a Tuesday and Wednesday. We still attend Portsmouth Women games together and sometimes their goalkeeper Hannah Haughton comes to watch Abby play.

In May 2021 she was nominated for Grassroots Footballer of the Season for a second time, this time winning it. We were all so proud of her.

Abby is one of the most determined girls I’ve ever met. She wants to be a professional footballer and I’m so excited to see what she can achieve, at this point I would put nothing past her.

Watching her play on a Saturday morning remains the highlight of the week for us. No matter where Abby’s journey takes her we will never forget the foundation Milford Pumas gave her in the early days.

Community Support for Rodborough 3G Pitch

Bid for Rodborough School - Community Sports Facilities

We have been working on a collaborative project in conjunction with Surrey FA, Rodborough School & Elstead Sharks to develop a new 3G Pitch at Rodborough School to benefit the community.

Plans are well underway to build a 3G All Weather Pitch at Rodborough. To fund this they have been successful in gaining the support of Waverley Borough Council and several other sporting and charity partners, as well as the Football Foundation. Partners in the bid include the Milford Pumas and Elstead Sharks in addition to backing from Crawley Town Football Club. They have been able to secure most of the required funding, but they are not quite there yet.

Surrey County Council is giving local communities up to £100m over the next five years to spend on projects that improve their local area. This is money put aside to empower YOU, Surrey residents.

The fund aims to empower communities by:

Connecting - residents and community groups to build ideas
Stimulating - local engagement and involvement
Providing - the financial backing for community-led projects
Delivering - benefits that match local need
Building - local resilience and sustainability by helping people help themselves

Tier 4 not to play with lower tiers

Following the Governments announcement on Dec 19th

Following the Governments update re Tier 4 - outdoor football can continue but Tier 4 players may not play in lower tier areas and lower tiers should not travel to Tier 4.

The government’s Tier 4 guidance states organised outdoor sport for under-18s and disabled sport will be allowed. The government’s guidelines on travel between tiers should be adhered to. Players in Tier 4 cannot play or train in Tiers 1, 2 or 3.

It is extremely important that clubs, players, coaches, match officials, league officials, volunteers, parents, carers, and facility providers in Tiers 1 to 3 continue to strictly follow both the UK Government's latest guidance on COVID-19 and respective bespoke guidance documents from The FA . Any incidents of non-compliance will be reported to the local County Football Association.

Statement from Milford Pumas Covid-19 Officer:

All managers should take the following action.

If you are visiting or hosting a team from a tier 4 area you MUST POSTPONE the match
If you are visiting or hosting a team in a tier 1,2 or 3 area you may continue unless your league has advised you differently in which case you must follow their guidance

NHS Test & Trace App Mandatory

The FA have mandated the use of the NHS Covid-19 App at all football activity

Following the latest Government announcement, all clubs must use the NHS Test & Trace app to record attendance of all participants, including spectators, referee and opposition, at all football activity.

The facility provider or your manager will have a QR code for you to scan on arrival using the NHS Test & Trace App which you can download here . If there are any issues with the App a paper back up will be used and destroyed after 21 days.

Managers Briefed Over New Covid-19 Processes

Covid-19 Kit Bags Prepared & Supplied

Every team at Milford Pumas Youth FC have been supplied with a Covid-19 Kit bag in line with The FA guidelines to ensure no matter what the injury the manager has the correct PPE to attend to the player safely. Remember, for matches, a representative from the player's household or support bubble must stay at the match so they can attend to the player quickly without PPE if required.

Managers will need extra help at matches so please do offer your assistance for example to mark attendance as participants arrive at matches. These little things will make the process a lot easier for all.

Covid-19 Code of Conduct

New club Covid-19 processes for all participants

The Committee have assigned a Covid-19 Officer, Kevin Goodman (an existing Pumas manager) to coordinate our Covid-19 processes. Thanks to Kevin we now have a new Covid-19 Code of Conduct in place as well as risk assessments for every venue and guidelines on how we will restart football in line with Government and FA Guidance.

Following Government guidance on 1st June

The FA have issued new guidance documents for adult players, coaches, facility operators, parents and carers involved in re-starting grassroots football activity during Covid-19.

These documents have been produced in line with Government guidance issued on Monday 1 June, which saw the easing of lockdown restrictions on gatherings, public spaces and outdoor activities and the phased return of outdoor sport and recreation.

The return of grassroots football is something that we know many are keen to see, but at this stage of the nation’s response to Covid-19, it must be done with careful consideration for everyone’s safety, especially vulnerable groups.

The FA continue to work closely with DCMS and Sport England in order to set out good practice guidance for those responsible for delivering different aspects of grassroots football. As the weeks progress, Government restrictions may or may not be eased further. If they are, the FA will update guidance accordingly. Surrey FA will share guidance amongst our stakeholder groups as soon as it is released and post on our website and social channels.

It’s essential everyone is clear about the restrictions and works together to manage social distancing and strong hand hygiene.

The FA and Surrey FA thank you all in advance for playing your vital part in helping our great game get going again. By observing Government guidance and these documents, let’s work together to ensure the transition back to enjoying football is as smooth and safe as possible.

Whilst these changes do allow an increase in the level of participation permitted, we would advise caution and encourage an emphasis on safety to protect both those involved in the sport and the wider community as a whole.

Guidance on permitted grassroots football activity during Covid-19

Surrey FA have provided updated guidance following latest government guidance

Please see below an important update from The Football Association in response to the Government’s guidance published on 13th May.

The FA has today issued guidance to all grassroots football and informal football activity outside the professional game.

Consistent with Government advice, published on Wednesday 13 May, the following outdoor football activity is currently permitted:

playing football individually e.g. practice of individual skills or fitness activities;
playing football with your family or other people living in your household;
an individual can play football with one other person who is not from their household.
coaching an adult player one to one.
All social distancing guidelines must be followed.

Additionally, maintaining a grass or artificial football pitch is permitted, as long as social distancing and appropriate hygiene practices are adopted.

If an individual is symptomatic, living in a household with a possible COVID-19 infection or if you are classified as extremely vulnerable on health grounds, the guidance is that you should remain at home.

The following football activity is not permitted at this time, consistent with Government guidelines:

coaching a child (U18) from a different household one to one. In order to comply with The FA’s safeguarding policy, a child must have a parent/carer with them, which doesn’t comply with Government social distancing requirements;

two or more people from one household playing with one person or more from outside their household.

The FA will continue to work with the Government and Sport England in order to provide guidance to grassroots football as the Government’s COVID-19 recovery strategy moves to the next phase.

Special registration process for next season...

We have changed the way we take subscriptions for next season given the current situation so that ALL members are able to renew/join at a low first instalment of £30 per player with the second instalment due by the end of September. We will then review this in summer depending on Government and FA guidance. Sibling discounts will be applied on the second instalment.

Please do renew as soon as possible as we will need to prepare for next season in the hope that we can start in September.

Chairman presented with Eagle Radio Breakfast Hero Award!

Volunteering is a thankless task but today it was recognised...

Today, Shaun Moorey was asked to visit Eagle Radio under the pretence of being interviewed about grassroots football but was instead presented with an Eagle Radio Breakfast Hero award by Breakfast Show presenters, Peter Gordon, Breakfast Bev and Morning Matt.

Of course first thing he said was "We don't do this for the recognition, we do it for the kids". He also said "The club is more than just about football, it's the social and health aspects too which is why we mix the players so they become confident in meeting new friends. We are also proud to encourage our players to become referees and coaches as they become young adults."

Thanks to Clare Macfarlane who entered Shaun and coordinated the interviews with Martin Ireland, Alpa Cox and Tony Menezes which he was presented with this morning.

The video below of Shaun being presented the award was aired on Friday 8th November by Eagle Radio.

New Sin Bin Rule

Sin Bins (Temporary Dismissals) now mandatory for all clubs and teams.

After 2 years of trials with some leagues, sin bins are now mandatory in all leagues for all clubs and teams.

The aim is to deal with dissent only (see infographic below) on the pitch directly with the player to reduce dissent rather than yellow cards and fines to the club after the match.

This years end of season BBQ for Pumas players & parents will be on Sunday 5 May at Rodborough with all age groups having an allocated slot throughout the day. There will be a BBQ, tombola, trophies and a chance to thank your manager for all their hard work all season!

Sport Godalming Awards Milford Pumas the Club Excellence Award 2017

Shaun Moorey and Alpa Cox attended the Sport Godalming Awards on October 27th after being nominated for the Club Excellence Award. Expecting to come third we were delighted when Milford Pumas Youth FC were announced as the winners.

The award is due to the hard work of all the volunteers - the committee, managers, coaches, assistants, administrators as well as the players and parents and it makes us proud to be part of an all-inclusive club ensuring fun and safe football is available in our local community. Thank you all.
